- Can I take courses without being admitted to a degree program?
Yes! Student may enroll in a single course, a number of courses, or a program leading to a bachelor's degree. All credit courses offered are University of Massachusetts Dartmouth courses and the grades earned are reflected in the student's grade point average at the university.
- How do I select my courses?
Academic advisement is available throughout the year to all students of the Professional & Continuing Education.

New Bedford at 508-990-1160Although advisors will make every effort to see walk-ins, new students are strongly urged to schedule an appointment with an advisor in advance. Students wishing to transfer credits earned at other colleges or universities must bring at least an unofficial/student copy of transcript(s) for their advisor to review, and if possible, catalog descriptions of courses taken.
- How do I apply for a degree program?
The Professional & Continuing Education offers an open, rolling admissions policy and program which provides degree candidates with an ongoing and "user friendly" process for initiating degree candidacy. Please review our admission process. For your convenience you may request a degree application packet online at http://www.umassd.edu/pce/ordering_info/requestpacket.cfm.
- How do I register for courses?
You have many ways to register: through COIN (for matriculated UMD students), in person, by phone, or by fax. Enrollment services are available in our Fall River and New Bedford Centers, as well as on the main campus. By telephone, you can call 508-678-3636, 508-999-9129 or 508-990-1160. Finally, you can fax the registration form to 508-678-1765 or 508-910-6420.

First time UMD students, please register by phone, fax or in person. If you are already a matriculated UMD student, you may register through COIN online. Once you are registered for your online course, you can access the course at http://dartmouth.umassonline.net and type in your username and password. - What are my Payment Options?
Students must pay for courses in full at the time of enrollment with cash, check or credit card. The TMS Monthly Budget Plan is available during the Spring, Summer & Fall terms for those who would like to pay for their course(s) over a four month period. TMS is not available for non-credit courses. TMS forms are available at the University Enrollment Center. Those enrolled in degree programs may be eligible for financial aid or loans; call 508-999-8632 for more information.
- Where can I park?
Directions the the Main Dartmouth Campus and Satellite locations online.
On the main campus, all students must park within the white lines only. Please observe posted restrictions in other areas and do not park on landscaped areas, block gates, entrances, crosswalks, or handicap access ramps.
At the Fall River Professional & Continuing Education Center, parking is available for a nominal fee at the Pearl and 3rd Street garages, which are within one block of the building. Metered parking is also available on South Main St.
At the New Bedford Professional & Continuing Education Center, parking is available for a nominal fee at the Custom House Square Parking Lot on William Street and the Elm Street Garage on Elm Street, which are both within blocks of the building. Metered parking is also available on surrounding streets.
- Do I need a parking permit?
Yes. All members of the community (i.e. full-time/part-time students, graduate students, continuing education students, special participants of seminars, conference or workshops; individuals working on grants; vendors, etc.) must register each vehicle they operate on campus.
Attention Students: Effective Fall 2007, the Parking Permit Information & Process has changed, please view the up-to-date Campus Services Department information online at http://www.umassd.edu/campusservices/studentparking.cfm. Students must present a valid UMass Pass, a valid driver's license, and a valid automobile registration in order to obtain a parking permit. Temporary and handicapped parking permits can be obtained from the Public Safety Office.

Can I get help with papers and course work? Are tutoring services available? Is there a charge?
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is a support service that provides peer tutoring and small group review sessions for UMass Dartmouth students. At no cost, ARC offers help with writing papers and improving your study skills as well as peer tutoring, study groups and study partners, workshops on academic issues, and individualized assessments. ARC includes the Math and Business Center, the Science and Engineering Center and the Writing/Reading Center. ARC’s central telephone number is 508-999-8708.
- Where do I get my books?
Located on the ground floor of the Campus Center, the Campus Store stocks all required textbooks for continuing education courses held in Dartmouth, Fall River and New Bedford plus recommended and supplementary books, art supplies, nursing supplies, newspapers, and magazines. Cape Cod Community College satellite location textbooks will be available at the CCCC bookstore. For CCCC bookstore information, please call 508-357-4022. Fall River Center for Professional & Continuing Education textbooks will be available at the University Store.
- How do I check my grades?
Grades are not mailed home. It is the student’s responsibility to use the COIN (Corsairs Online Information) system to access grades. You will receive your student ID and a pin number to access your WebStudent account, and you should keep this number handy. If you need assistance with the COIN system, please contact the Help Desk at 508-999-8884.
- Do I need to use my UMD email account?
Email accounts are provided to every UMass Dartmouth student. This is an official means of communication for UMass Dartmouth notifications, alerts, announcements and events. You will receive notification regarding your UMD email account access via the CITS Welcome Postcard. - Where can I learn about career options?
The Career Resource Center, located on the lower level of Group 1, offers a full range of career services such as resume writing, job search, interview skills, use of the career library, and assessment of career potentials, to name a few. - Who should be informed if I have a learning disability?
The Center for Access and Success is a support organization helping students with disabilities pursue their educational goals while adjusting fully to their new environment. Services provided include mobility, note-taking, advocacy, alternative testing, and a referral service for interpreters. UMass Dartmouth's policy regarding admission and access to programs prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. While applicants and enrolled students are not required to disclose a disability, it is recommended they contact the Center for Access and Success to discuss, in confidence, accommodations that may be needed. - Can I use a tape recorder in class?
Check with your professor about his or her own policy. If you must use a tape recorder or other assistive device due to a learning or physical disability, contact the Center for Access and Success at 508-999-8711 to confidentially discuss accommodations that you may need.
