John Frye
The John Frye Athletic Service Award
The John Frye Athletic Service Award is presented annually to a group or individual to recognize outstanding service to the UMass Dartmouth Department of Athletics. The Frye Award presentation takes place at the Annual Athletic Department Awards Banquet each May.
Presented first at the 1998 Athletic Department Awards Banquet, the John Frye Athletic Service Award is named in honor of the late John Frye, SMU Class of ‘71 and a 1995 UMass Dartmouth Hall of Fame inductee. The award honors his 27 years of service and friendship to the athletes and teams of UMass Dartmouth.
On the night of his induction into the Corsair Hall of Fame, John Frye was recognized for his years of self-less service to the Athletic Department. This is how he was introduced for his induction: "Over the last 27 years, the UMass Dartmouth athletic department has not had a better friend than Frye. His association with the Corsairs began as an SMU student and continues today as the official scorer for the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball and the athletic department's historian. He has volunteered his services to the department throughout the years and is currently compiling a history of the sports programs at UMass Dartmouth and its predecessor institutions."
John Frye passed away in 1996.
