UMass Dartmouth upset Keene State College, 2-1, on Saturday in the final Little East Conference regular season game for both teams. The victory extends UMass Dartmouth’s unbeaten streak to seven straight and moves the Corsairs into next week’s LEC Tournament. Coach Alex Silva’s Corsairs finish the season with a6-8-4 overall mark and a 2-3-2 record in the LEC. The Corsairs will open LEC Tournament action this Tuesday afternoon against an undetermined opponent.
A pair of second half goals within two minutes of each other were all the goals the Corsairs would need as Norah McNally came up with eight saves in goal for the win. The Keene State Owls entered the game ranked ninth in New England and #19 nationally in Division III. Fairhaven’s Kelly Fitts scored the first goal with an assist from Elena Gomez (Rockland, MA), who came back less than two minutes later to score what proved to be the game-winner. Maura Armstrong (Auburn, MA) assisted on the game-winner.
Since dropping a 2-1 decision to Trinity College on Oct. 8, the Corsairs have won four games and tied three more, including key victories over UMass Boston on Oct. 18 and against Keene State on Saturday to advance into the LEC Tournament.
