NEW FALL ORIENTATION PROGRAM
A new Fall Orientation component has been created to further assist new students with their transition in becoming a successful student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Fall Orientation Thursday, August 28 - Monday, September 1, 2008
General Information:
What is Orientation all about?
Orientation is designed to ease you through the many 'firsts' which entering college represents. Through various workshops, presentations, and small group discussions, we hope to make the beginning of your college career an exciting and successful experience. By the time you leave campus, you will know a great deal more about the University, and more importantly, you will have developed important friendships for the coming school year.
Orientation is a time which should be informal and enjoyable. You should bring casual clothes, your questions, and a good sense of humor. For your residence hall stay, bring an umbrella, alarm clock, sleeping bag, or sheets and blankets, pillow, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, towel, hairdryer, and writing materials.
Will I register during Orientation?
The Registrar’s Office and selected faculty advisors have already pre-registered you for the Fall 2007 semester. During Orientation, your advisor will discuss your course selection, degree requirements, and help you plan for academic success. At the end of your advising session, you will have confirmed your class schedule for the Fall semester.
Should I bring my health papers?
UMass Dartmouth requires that all students complete a health questionnaire and immunization form. You should mail the completed health forms 30 days after acceptance, to the UMass Dartmouth Health Office. All forms should be submitted by June 1, 2008.
Family Orientation
An invitation has been sent to your home regarding information about family orientation. Our website also has these details.
Center for Access and Success
The Center for Access and Success provides special assistance for students with disabilities (note takers, readers, mobility assistance, etc.). They can help answer any questions you may have regarding disabled students’ participation in Orientation. You can contact the office at:(508) 999-8711.
Alcohol & Drug Policy
In compliance with the Massachusetts legal drinking age and the UMass Dartmouth alcohol and drug policy, alcoholic beverages are not allowed at New Student Orientation. Violators of the alcohol and drug policy will be dismissed from Orientation and could face University disciplinary action, up to dismissal from the University.
Special Dietary Needs
The Student Affairs Office should be made aware of any special dietary needs or allergies. Please let us know of your dietary/allergy needs within five days after you receive this notice so that we can make the necessary arrangements prior to your arrival.
