The Department of Anthropology would like to create a poster with each faculty and graduate student’s photo. We are offering free head shots to all current faculty, graduate students, or uFASA members.
Chris LeClere will set up in the chair’s office in 1112 Turlington (next to Karen’s office) on Friday, October 20th, Friday, October 27th, and Friday, November 3rd from 2:00pm-5:00pm.
Faculty members should plan to spend a few extra minutes for a video portion. We are creating a short video on each faculty member to showcase your current research so incoming grad students have a better idea about you and your research, especially as they look to fill their committees.

The American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program
The American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program is organizing an event for Indigenous Peoples Day on October 9, 2017. Information tables will be set up on the Plaza from 11:00-2:00pm, with up-to-date information on issues such as Florida pipelines and the Seminole; litigation from Standing Rock; and climate change impact on native peoples. A native student speaker will talk about the proposed change from “Columbus Day” to Indigenous Peoples Day. A petition to the University will be circulated to this effect. New maps of Native America, by Aaron Carapella (Native artist and cartographer) will be on display. Faculty and students are cordially invited to drop by and taste some fry bread and blue corn pancakes, courtesy of Dr. Rich Conley of Political Science. The Social Change and Development in Africa working group’s overall aim is to facilitate discussions of critical and informed character on a broad range of issues related to social change and development in Africa. This includes a focus on both intended and prescribed development initiatives undertaken by governments, national, transnational actors and NGOs, and on the more subtle changes and developments that occur independent of specific intentions. Our bi-weekly meetings features presentations of work in progress by UF faculty members or students or by invited external speakers. We welcome faculty and students (both undergraduate and graduate) with diverse research interests related to development and social change in Africa and the African diaspora.

The Department of Anthropology at Tulane University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Cultural Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 2018. We seek applicants with a regional focus on Mexico and who specialize in political anthropology, migration studies, media/visual anthropology, ethnohistory, or applied anthropology. “New College is hiring a gender scholar!
New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor with scholarly expertise in gender, broadly interpreted to embrace interdisciplinary and disciplinary approaches, to begin August 2018. The successful candidate’s primary appointment will be either in their home discipline or joint with Gender Studies, as appropriate. This position is part of the first phase of a three-year College growth plan, with several cluster hires meant to support an interdisciplinary liberal arts approach.
We are open with respect to research and teaching interests. However, the successful candidate’s work must engage with questions of intersectionality and we encourage those with expertise in transnational feminisms, the global south, or diasporic studies to apply. We will consider a variety of methodological approaches, although quantitative expertise would especially complement our existing strengths. We are particularly interested in applicants with PhDs in gender/women’s/feminist/sexuality studies; we also welcome applications from those trained in other interdisciplinary fields, the social sciences, humanities, or natural sciences who have a graduate certificate or significant interdisciplinary training in gender studies. Receipt of the PhD is expected by the time of appointment.
Candidates should be prepared to teach an Introduction to Gender Studies course and additional courses in their areas of expertise. The teaching responsibility is two courses per semester plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials. In addition to classes and tutorials, faculty members provide academic advising, supervise independent study projects, sponsor senior undergraduate theses/projects, and serve on baccalaureate committees. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty from across campus to develop the existing Gender Studies Program. Faculty are also expected to establish and maintain a strong program of research or creative work.

Lecturer Opening at Clemson
Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice department at Clemson University has an opening for a full-time temporary lecturer with a preferred focus on historic or southeastern archeology for Spring 2018. The lecturer would ideally teach four courses, including two sections of a four-field Introduction to Anthropology, Archaeology (method and theory with a lab), and a course in their area of expertise. There may be the opportunity for summer field school on the Clemson campus as well.
