AEC6932 is designed to examine leadership as it relates to organizations and provide a knowledge base of theories, research and practices necessary for effective organizations. Organizational Leadership incorporates numerous activities that foster a sense of community within the course while also requiring the students to engage with the content on a meaningful level.

Video Introductions

In this assignment, students are asked to introduce themselves, explain why they are taking the course, and what they hope to get out of taking the class. According to the UF Standards and Markers of Excellence, it is important for students to engage in content in a variety of ways. Incorporating an introductory discussion allows for students to establish a greater sense of community early in the semester.

Community Building Activity

Similarly to the video introductions, “Icebreakers” create a collaborative and positive learning environment. By providing students the opportunity to construct their own learning activities allows for an increased sense of responsibility and ownership within the course.

Reflection Activity

Reflection activities encourage students to think about what they have learned and how their thinking has evolved with new knowledge. In this two-part assignment, students first submitted an organizational chart for a company. After conducting interviews with company personnel, the students then created a video explaining deviances from the official organizational structure due to discoveries of informal reporting hierarchies.

Authentic Assessments

Authentic assessments keep students engaged and actively learning by requiring students to focus on applying the concepts to complete meaningful task-based assignments. In this culminating assignment, students uploaded video of how they would utilize reframing to address leadership issues within an organization. Thus, students were required to assimilate information from throughout the modules and apply it to a case study mimicking a real-world task in a leadership consultant.
