International Trade and Development

Ongoing advances in communication, transportation, and logistics foster ever-increasing international competition and the potential for international cooperation. Associated policy issues include the best means to foster cooperation and expand economic opportunity in all regions of the world, including in developing regions. The appropriate design of regional economic integration agreements such as NAFTA is an area of considerable importance. So, too, is the design of policies to promote innovation across national boundaries and to harness competitive forces to deliver widespread economic benefits.
