UF is a Land-Grant and Sea-Grant institution, encompassing virtually all academic and professional disciplines. The university is the flagship institution in Florida which is the oldest and most academically diverse public universities in the nation. Department of Tourism, Recreation & Sport Management
The Department focuses on understanding the meaning of leisure time, recreation activities, tourism, and organized sports and their impact on personal behavior and on the social, economic, and resource infrastructure of society. The department is one of the premier programs in the country with outstanding faculty, staff and students. The department currently enrolls approximately 1000 students (900 undergraduates, 100 graduates) with 20+ full-time faculty members, and provides nationally and internationally recognized education and research programs. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.degrees.
The vision of the department is to inspire and enable a better quality of life through innovative and compelling research, education, and outreach in tourism, recreation and sport. Overall, through distinctive teaching, research, and outreach the department seeks to improve the understanding of psycho-social factors that lead individuals, families and industry to value and benefit from tourism, recreation, parks, and sport, and thus improves the quality of life. In addition, to provide knowledge that helps communities and organizations develop and improve sustainable tourism, recreation, parks, and sport opportunities that benefit a diverse population, including children, families, and older adults.
The academic environment is rich in research and fosters dynamic educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. The graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.) are instrumental in assistance and collaborative research partnership with EFTI faculty. The students have also been closely mentored and supervised during the process of their respective thesis or dissertation by EFTI faculty. Graduate students’ research is diverse and expansive as well as within the Program Areas of EFTI.
