How to Apply for Financial Aid

Many questions regarding financial aid can be answered by visiting the Financial Aid and Student Accounts Support Center or calling 855.874.6680.    NOTE: If you are a parent calling to inquire about specific account information for your son or daughter, please have them on the line with you.  If this is not possible, the Support Center counselors will be able to speak about general information or processes only.  Since educational records are protected from third-party disclosure by federal law, if it becomes necessary to get into account-specific details, they will be pleased to refer you to a specialist that can determine if information can be released.  Referrals are typically responded to within 1 – 3 business days.

There are 5 easy steps – from start to finish – in applying for financial aid.

Step 1

Applying for financial aid is an annual process, which should begin immediately after filing your federal income tax return. (If not filing a federal tax return, complete the FAFSA after January 1st.) It is strongly recommended that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be completed online.

Financial aid counseling, which includes assistance with submitting the FAFSA online, will be available on the following days:

Mondays:          8:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Wednesdays:    8:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Appointments are not necessary.  Walk-ins are welcome during these times.

If you wish to successfully submit you FAFSA application on a Monday or Wednesday, please make sure you review the steps for Filling Out the FAFSA, specifically the section on “Gathering the Documents You Need“.

Make sure you indicate that you plan to attend:

  • Eastern Shore Community College
  • Title IV, Institution Code # 003748

Step 2

If you supply an email address, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR – the processed FAFSA) in three to five days. If you did not supply an email address, you will receive a SAR in seven to ten days by U.S.Mail.

Step 3

It is very important that you review the Student Aid Report for mistakes. If you need to make corrections, you can return to the FAFSA website to submit corrections.

If you do not understand the correction process, please call the Financial Aid Office.

Step 4

The ESCC Financial Aid Office will receive your Student Aid Report electronically, if you have completed an admissions application as a curricular student. Your SAR will be reviewed and you will be sent a Missing Information Letter if additional information or documentation is needed to complete your financial aid file.

Step 5

Once your financial aid file is complete, you will be notified whether or not you are eligible to receive financial aid. This Financial Aid Award Notice will state the amount and types of aid you are being offered. The college will begin sending out these notifications during the first part of June.
