We would like to spotlight two of our Nutritional Sciences Alumni that studied with Dr. Jesse Gregory:

  • Lisa Rogers:  Dr. Rogers received her B.S. from the University of Arizona in Nutrition and Dietetics, and her M.S. from the University of Florida in Human Nutrition. She is also a Registered Dietitian (internship at St. Luke’s Hospital/Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL ´94). Her master’s thesis work involved studying the bioavailability of folic acid in 13C5-folic acid fortified cereal products. This work was completed under Dr. Jesse Gregory, III. Dr. Rogers is currently working at the World Health Organization as a Technical Officer in the Micronutrient Unit of the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development. She is updating the vitamin A portion of the Micronutrient Deficiency Information System (MIS) and will then use this information to update WHO’s global estimates of vitamin A deficiency.  http://picn.ucdavis.edu/alumni/
  • Christine Pfeiffer :  Dr. Pfeiffer was a Postdoc at the University of Florida, studying under Dr. Jesse Gregory.  She is the Chief of the Nutritional Biomarkers Branch in the Division of Laboratory Sciences at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH). She joined the CDC in 1996 where her research focuses on the development of state-of-the-art analytical methods for the measurement of nutritional biomarkers, the application of these methods to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and other epidemiologic studies, and consultations on laboratory-related activities for CDC’s IMMPaCt (International Micronutrient Malnutrition Prevention and Control) Programme.Dr. Pfeiffer is a leading expert on folate and B-vitamin methodologies, and on the assessment and interpretation of nutritional status through biomarkers. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, led the production of two major agency reports on nutritional biomarkers in NHANES, served on national and international committees, and has been an invited speaker at major international conferences.  http://www.who.int/nutrition/topics/seminar_26Sept2013_DrPfeiffer/en/
