Joeva Barrow Outstanding FSHN Alumna
Joeva Hepburn Barrow, PhD, RD (DPD class of 2006; MS-DI class of 2008) graduated from the University of Florida in spring 2013 with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences – Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her dissertation title was: “Analyzing Beta-Globin Cis-Regulatory Elements By Using Artificial DNA-Binding Domains.” Her research involved probing DNA elements within the beta-globin gene locus using artificial DNA-binding proteins. As a result, she unveiled key regulatory regions to target to improve the therapy for blood disorders such as Sickle Cell Anemia.
Dr. Barrow starts her post-doctoral work this month at Harvard University in the Department of Cancer Biology with Dr. Pere Puigserver in Nutritional Biochemistry. We are honored that Jeova is a two-time alumna of FSHN, and are proud of her many academic accomplishments. We wish her all the best and know she will have great success at Harvard and in her career.
