Graduation Requirements

The UF Graduate Catalog and the FSHN Department Graduate Student Handbook identify requirements for the MS non-thesis degree. Each student is responsible for contacting the Academic Programs Office (2014 MCC) to verify that all graduation requirements have been met. Grades of I and H must be removed. Also, students are responsible for filing all paperwork related to graduation with the appropriate administrative offices by the scheduled dates. Refer to the UF calendar.

Students are evaluated during and at the conclusion of each course. Grades are based on performance on quizzes, tests, assignments, papers, presentations, projects, class participation and other types of activities as specified in the course syllabi. The grading scale is included in course syllabi. Failure to satisfactorily complete course work (i.e., overall GPA < 3.0) will result in the student being placed on academic probation and may delay entering the full-time internship component of the program. Failure to raise the total GPA to 3.0 or above during the following semester may result in suspension. As per the course syllabi, students must earn a grade of “B” or better in DIE 6241 and 6242 in order to progress to the full-time internship component of the program. All pre-internship experiences associated with formal courses must be completed satisfactorily in order to progress to the next semester.

All MS-DI students must complete a computer-based “mock” registration examination that is administered during the last semester of the program. This serves as the final exam required for the Master of Science non-thesis degree and for completion of the Dietetic Internship. All students enrolled in the MS-DI program are required to take and pass this exam (i.e., score of 70% or greater) as part of the requirements for graduation and issuance of the Verification Statement. Students who do not achieve a passing score on the first attempt will be given the opportunity to retake the exam. To allow time for preparation, the repeat exam will be scheduled a minimum of two weeks after the first test date.  A copy of each student’s exam score will be placed in his/her permanent record. The score also is used in part to determine the final grade for DIE 6516.

When all degree and graduation requirements are metthe Program Director will verify program completion, submit the required information to the Commission on Dietetic Registration via an online process, and provide students with at least 7 signed original copies of the Verification Statement.As soon as CDR approves the class eligibility submission, the CDR exam manager will electronically notify the American College on Testing (ACT) of each student’s examination eligibility. The candidate will receive an eligibility confirmation letter from CDR and an application from ACT. The completed application form must be mailed or completed online along with the examination fee to ACT. ACT will follow up by mailing an “Authorization to Test” letter to the candidate. Upon receipt of the “Authorization to Test” letter, the candidate may call (1-800-205-6366) to schedule a testing appointment.
