  • Deadline: March 15 and October 15, annually.
  • Award: up to $1000.
  • Eligibility:
    • Graduate and undergraduate students.
    • Does not require membership, but it helps if student or their adviser is member.
    • Non-U.S. citizens eligible.

Society of Economic Geologists

Student Research Grants

  • Deadline: March 15, annually.
  • Awards: $1000-5000 for one year.
  • Eligibility:
    • Graduate students.
    • Preference to SEG student members.

Society for Sedimentary Geology

Student Assistance Grants

The Colorado Scientific Society

  • Deadline: March 21, annually.
  • Awards: $600-1000 for field-oriented research on geology, geochemistry, and geophysics of the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Eligibility:

    •  Accredited college or university.

Gulf Coast Association Geological Societies

  • Deadline: Applications accepted October 1 to February 28, annually.
  • Awards: $2000 maximum for research in the Gulf Coast.
  • Eligibility:
    • Graduate and undergraduate students.
    • Research in the Gulf Coast region.

Tobacco Root Geological Society Field Scholarship

Deadline: February 15, annually.

Awards: Maximum $1000.

Eligibility:

  • Graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Research in the Northern Rocky Mountain Province.

Association for Woman Geoscientists Chrysalis Scholarship

Fellowships and Programs

NSF Graduate Fellowships:

3 year research fellowships. For both MS and PhD students. Application can be made during the senior year of college, prior to or during the first year of graduate school, and at the beginning of the second year of graduate school. Link: https://www.nsfgrfp.org/.

Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship Program:

Merit-based awards for outstanding graduate students to conduct research related to the International Ocean Discovery Program. The $30,000 per year award is to be used for stipend, tuition, benefits, research costs, and travel. EPA National Center for Environmental Research STAR Fellowships:

Fellowships for MS and PhD students conducting environmental research. (Application period July – Oct). Link: http://www.epa.gov/ncer/

NSF Summer Institutes in Asia and Australia Program:

Travel to Meetings

Both the Geological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union have student travel grants to attend meetings. Check their web sites.
