Considering the History Honors Program?

The History Department’s Honors Program is a one of a kind experience for UF undergrads. The culmination of  an entire year’s work comes to fruition with the Honors Thesis Conference and Awards Luncheon.

On Saturday, April 11th, the History Department Honors Program hosted its sixth annual Honors Thesis Conference and Awards Luncheon. In addition to our presenters, we were joined by faculty advisors in History, Classics, and Sociology; Department of History chair Sean Adams and associate chair Nina Caputo; UF President Dr. Kent Fuchs; and friends and family of our honors students. Both the George Smathers Library and the History Department generously provided space for our panels.

The 2015 conference featured twenty-three papers presented in seven panels. Our presenters, all of whom completed the Honors Thesis program in History, covered topics ranging from Ancient Rome to Sesame Street. The students gave impressive presentations on their research and arguments, and the audience actively participated in discussions following each panel.

We are extremely proud of the Honors class of 2015, both for their accomplishments as UF students and their current pursuits. Alumni of the program are enrolled in graduate programs in Latin American Studies at the University of Wisconsin Madison; in master’s programs in the College of Public Health, the Hough Graduate School of Business, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida; and in seminary at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Several are in law school at the University of Florida and the University of Virginia. Others are gainfully employed – by A+E Networks in New York City, the National Park Service, and a charter high school in Eugene, Oregon. We wish them all the best in their work and studies.
