Johanna Cleary receives Emeritus status

Congratulations to Johanna Cleary on her new University of Florida status – Associate Professor Emeritus. The honor was bestowed on Johanna for her professional achievements during her tenure in the Telecommunication Department.

Johanna came to UF in 2004 as an Assistant Professor and was subsequently awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor. She has taught required undergraduate courses in Investigative Reporting and Ethics and Problems and graduate courses in Mass Communication Theory and a specialized course, Covering the Arts. She has been very involved with the College’s Study Abroad program, teaching courses in Ethics, Covering the Arts, World Communication Systems and Travel Reporting. Johanna has received accolades for her dedication and was previously selected as the College’s junior faculty International Educator of the Year.

In addition to her classroom teaching, Johanna has contributed to the Graduate Program by chairing or serving on almost 100 supervisory committees, including chairing three doctoral committees. She has served as the Department’s Graduate Coordinator since 2009.

Johanna is a published author with 16 refereed journal articles as well as 23 refereed conference papers. She has also published various book chapters, trade publication articles and reviews.

A highly valued and productive member of the College faculty, Johanna is well deserving of this honor upon her official retirement.
