GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two upcoming road construction projects near the University of Florida campus may disrupt commutes and possibly parking for some UF and UF Health faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Construction begins Feb. 3 on several water, sewer, communication and electrical improvements along SW 2nd Avenue near Innovation Hub, east of campus. The roadway and the sidewalk will be closed between SW 7th Terrace and SW 10th Street. The road is expected to remain closed for six weeks, and traffic will be rerouted to SW 4th Avenue.

For more information, contact the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency at 352-393-8200 or visit its website at www.gainesvillecra.com.

On Feb. 10, a city of Gainesville project to resurface SW 16th Avenue near the College of Veterinary Medicine begins. The project includes removing the on-street parking along the road and will require some UF Health employees to make other permanent parking arrangements.

The project has multiple phases and includes installing new mast arm traffic signals at the intersections of SW 16 Avenue and SW 13th Street, and SW 16 Avenue and Archer Road, adding bike lanes and installing streetscaping. The project is slated for completion in September.

Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and various day- and night-time closures will happen as the construction moves through various stages. No lane closures will be permitted on major holidays or the weekends of home football games.

Information on roadway traffic and lane closures can be found at http://gac-smartraffic.com.
