J. Brent Walker Honored with Distinguished Alumnus Award

At the April 29 commencement ceremony, J. Brent Walker, an alum of the Department, was honored with a Distinguished Alumnus Award. From 1999 to 2016 Walker was executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Libert (BJC) in Washington, whose mission is to “defend and extend God-given religious liberty to all,” while championing the principles of religious liberty that should not be advanced nor inhibited by government. Mr. Walker testified before Congress on numerous church-state matters and worked on dozens of amicus briefs filed at the US Supreme Court. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
