EVENTS:

Live in Alachua County and want to go solar? Now’s your chance! Neighbors across the county have formed the Alachua County Solar Co-op with the help of FL SUN to make it easier to save money on the purchase of solar panels, while building a community of local solar supporters. Join the information session in Gainesville to learn about solar energy, as well as how the Alachua County Solar Co-op simplifies the process of going solar while providing a discount through its bulk purchasing power. The co-op’s selected installer, Power Production Management, will be at the information session to answer any questions. Join the Facebook Event or visit the FL SUN website for more information.

Did you know that each time you wash your face, do laundry or brush your teeth you may be adding tiny bits of plastic into our waters? These microscopic particles of plastic never break down in the environment, and eventually end up in our coastal waters, where they may be accidentally eaten by marine life. They also attract toxins in the environment which can easily adhere to their surface. Attend this free and family-friendly science cafe to learn what you can do to reduce microplastic pollution in Florida’s waters. For more information, visit the Facebook Event.

The Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) is a two-week “boot camp” for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and energy revolution happening around the globe. Held annually since 2011, the program boasts 300 alumni. During weekdays, SISE’ers participate in high-level talks, visit energy and sustainability sites, and network. In 2017, SISE will focus on transportation, specifically the concept of mobility and the the future of transportation systems.
