2017 Program Dates Now Available!

TRSM faculty are involved in experiential education notably via the Study Abroad Program. The programs are largely conducted in partnership with American Universities International Programs (AUIP) and coordinated with UF International Center. The programs offer UF students an opportunity to earn academic credits while traveling extensively as a group with UF faculty and local field guides throughout different regions in the world. These programs offer an interdisciplinary approach in many different fields associated with TRSM-EFTI.

Study Abroad Programs

Currently, several study abroad opportunities are offered and led by TRSM faculty in the following destinations:

Cuba 2017 Cuba:  The Past, Present and Future of Sports in Cuba

Semester: Spring (March 4-10,  2017)
Credits: 3 (LEI 4955)
Cost: $2,677 (Undgergraduate)

The primary purpose of the course is to provide students with an overview of Cuba’s approach to sports, including how sport has been used as a tool for political benefit and diplomacy, as well as for public health. Students will also gain an understanding of the past and current system used to develop athletes in Cuba. Further, students will also assess the disruptions to the current model of sport in Cuba, and speculate on how sport will evolve in the country. Students will also gain an understanding of the rationale behind Cuba’s urban development policies and the role of art and sport in the development of Cuban culture.

Australia: North Queensland

Semester: Summer A  2017 (MAY 15 – June 11, 2017)
Credits:6 (LEI 4955/6931: Sustaining Humans and their Environments)
Cost: $6,999 (Undergraduate)  $7,495 (Graduate)

Program focus is on topics related to sustainable development (sustaining human societies and the natural environment) through educational travel, field trips, active participation, lecture presentations and seminars, and coursework exercises. The goal of this course is using the Queensland, Australia case to integrate the different perspectives of diverse natural, biological, and social science disciplines to improve understanding of relationships between human societies and the natural environment. The impact of humans on natural resources and their sustainable use and conservation will be emphasized.

Fiji:  Sustaining Humans and their Environments

Semester: Summer A 2017 (June 11-20, 2017)
Credits: 6 (LEI 4955/6931: Sustaining Humans and their Environments)
Cost: $2,998 (Undergraduate), $3,246 (Graduate)

Spend 10 days traveling through the mainland of Fiji and one of its offshore islands. Fiji is known for its vibrant traditional culture and spectacular natural environments. This program will take place on Vitu Levu (the main island), Nadi, the Coral Coast, and Barefoot Island, one of the Yasawa Islands. Observe Fiji firsthand with local field guides and UF professors with expertise in the fields related to ecotourism and sustainability. You can participate in the program on its own or add it onto the North Queensland Humans and the Environment program.

NZ 2015

New Zealand: Sustaining Humans & their Environments

Semester: Summer A 2017 (May 28-June 21, 2017)
Credits: 6 (LEI 4955/6931: Sustaining Humans and their Environments)
Cost: $6,174 (Undergraduate), $6,670 (Graduate)

In conjunction with University of Montana and Frostburg State University, this 25-day study abroad program will examine ecological restoration and resource conservation of New Zealand’s North Island through an active engagement in service learning projects. New Zealand is at the forefront of restoring degraded habitat by reintroducing native animals and original native flora after removing animal pests. Students will learn about restoration approaches and how they can lead to improvements in biodiversity conservation and carbon offsetting through classroom lectures and field trips. They will then use their knowledge to assist community groups with long-term restoration projects. The course will include an examination of Maori conservation values and culture and how these social aspects influence restoration outputs.

Greece 2017

Greece: The Legacy of Sport and Health

Semester: Summer A 2017 (June 6-16, 2017)
Credits: 6 (LEI 4955/6931: Sustaining Humans and their Environments)

Greece is a country of approximately 11,000,000 people and the home of the ancient and the 2004 Olympic Games. Athens is the capital and features a number of sporting events with the biggest annual event being the Athens Classic Marathon in its original route. This program is designed to expose students to Greece, with a focus on the impact of sport activities and sport events—particularly the ancient and modern Olympic Games—on individuals and the community. You will gain unparalleled access to sport tourism, and health organizations, agencies, and museums.

Student Exchange Programs

Currently TRSM has several student exchange opportunities offered in the following destinations:


finland Finland: Sport Management
JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Sport Business School

Semester: Fall and/or Spring Semester
Credits: 12- 16 credits
Cost: UF Tuition Rate

This program lets you spend a semester in Finland studying Sport Management at JAMK University in Juvaskula, Finland. All courses are taught in English and cover topics such as Sport and Media, Sport Digital Marketing, and Sport & Event Marketing. You can earn credit toward your degree in Sport Management in another country while still paying UF tuition rate. A great opportunity to study in a student-friendly city that offers a wide range of activities and opportunities.

Germany: Sport Management
German Sport University in Cologne

Semester: Fall and/or Spring Semester
Credits: 12- 16 credits
Cost: UF Tuition Rate

Study sport management and sport performance at the largest sport university in Europe, the German Sport University.  Students in the College of Health and Human Performance have the opportunity to study for a semester in Cologne, Germany.  The German Sport University assists with accommodations on campus, as well as pairing students up with a German Sport University student to serve as a liaison on campus.

Vienna: Tourism, Hospitality & Business Management
Modul University
