Board of Visitors

From the Board of Visitors, Chair 2014-15

Phil Bradley, Board of Visitors, Chair, 2014-15 at Clemson University, Clemson South Carolina As the 2014-15 Chairman of the Clemson University Board of Visitors, I want introduce you to the Board and to me. I am a 1965 Clemson graduate (BS, Industrial Management). I served on active duty in the US Army as an infantry commander and then returned with my family to Charleston where my life-long vocation has been in the insurance industry. My son is third generation Clemson grad. I also serve on the Clemson Foundation Board.

The Board of Visitors is a volunteer advisory body charged with being goodwill ambassadors for Clemson University. We attend periodic on-campus meetings to learn about the University and to give feedback to the campus from our respective communities. These meetings allow us to get detailed and accurate information about the University and its numerous points of contact with the citizens of South Carolina, the nation and the world. As ambassadors, we share this information freely so others will better understand the role that Clemson plays in educating students, conducting valuable research and driving economic development.

The Board consists of approximately sixty members who are nominated by the Board of Trustees and appointed by the President for a three-year term of service. Each member serves on one of four standing committees – Marketing, Legislative, Student Affairs and the Past Chairs. The Past Chairs serve as ex-officio members.

A fringe benefit of serving on the Board is the opportunity to meet some of the finest young people in our nation. Clemson students continue to amaze us with their enthusiasm, leadership and character. It is encouraging to think about the future of our state and region with these future leaders at the helm. When you have the time to sit and talk with them, we are sure you, too, will be impressed. They are the reason that Clemson’s reputation is growing as a high seminary of learning and a top-ranked National public university.

Clemson is a special place and, as ambassadors, we are called to tell the story that is Clemson. We are called to tell it to our families, our friends, our legislators, our students and our communities. My wife Mary and I are honored to be part of that story and to see how Clemson and the Clemson families make a difference in South Carolina, not only in quality education for our citizens but in research, economic development and agriculture. All of these are important to South Carolina and our quality of Life.

Go Tigers!

William P. Bradley (Phil)
Board of Visitors Chairman 2014-2015
