Dear Clemson Family:
This fall, we are once again teaming up with the United Way to address areas of tremendous need in the Upstate. This is a challenging time for many segments of our society. One of the phenomenal pieces of the United Way structure is that the donations you give are focused towards your local communities so we can be sure the lives of upstate residents are impacted directly with these dollars. All Upstate United Ways are working in your community in the areas of education, financial stability and health/basic needs.
Last year, in Pickens County alone, more than 25,000 individuals were assisted by programs funded through United Way of Pickens County. That is 1 in 5 people in the county, helped by the United Way. It doesn’t take a lot of money to make a huge difference. United Way is working in our community every day to stop teen pregnancy, increase graduation rates, fund early childhood and literacy programs, escalate financial stability knowledge, as well as making sure there are basic needs services available when they are required.
Clemson University is actively involved with the Upstate United Ways, not just through our employee campaign and giving, but also through our students and employees volunteering their time for various service projects throughout the year.
No one agency could do all of this alone. It takes engaged citizens, like you and me, to make all of this possible. In the end, it is our commitment to each other that makes the Upstate a healthy sustainable community in which to live, learn and work. It is all about helping people stand on their own because when you improve the quality of life for one, you make the community healthier and stronger for all. Without our contributions and commitment to this community, change would not be possible.
Since our Clemson Family is spread throughout the Upstate, we would like to stress that your donation will stay in the location of your zip code. If you have any questions about the campaign, go online, or talk to your United Way Champion in your unit or department to learn how you can make a difference.
Last year we beat our goal of $85,000, we raised $93,000! This year, our goal is $100,000!! If every employee at Clemson University gave just $2 a paycheck, that would far surpass our goal. We Give United and we Live United for our community, I am proud to say, we are Clemson United!
