Service Involvement Opportunities: Early Winter 2011
I trust my first message of 2011 finds you happy, healthy and eager to participate in the wonderful opportunities the spring semester holds. As you may know, Clemson University’s 11th Annual MLK Day of Service took place on Monday, Jan. 17. More than 160 Clemson students, staff and other volunteers donated over 750 hours of service at both on- and off-campus sites. New this year, transportation was provided for participants who had an opportunity for group discussion before and after the event. One student volunteer said, “Without the reflection, we could have walked away with a great service experience without realizing the power behind it.”
I’m so proud of all of the students who were involved and I encourage all of you to give back to your community in some way. Throughout the spring semester, Clemson is offering several more service opportunities to look forward to, including
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” With that being said, I would love to learn about your favorite service projects at Clemson and in what other ways you plan to give back this spring. In fact, the 10th and 20th students who e-mail me with their stories will receive a Clemson T-shirt and Clemson headphones.
I look forward to hearing about your service experiences and plans. Thank you for continuing to help us create the nation’s most engaged, satisfied and successful student body. To see more service events, please visit us online at clemson.edu/student-affairs.
