Clemson Historical Families Reunion

All attendees had a great time at the reunion visiting with distant family members and friends. We hope to see and hear from you all soon!

Reunion Headquarters

The Clyde V. Madren Center and the James F. Martin Inn (864-654-9020) will serve as the official Reunion headquarters. Please see the registration desk in the North Lobby of the Madren Center upon your arrival for nametags and other materials.

Weekend Attire

Please check activity descriptions for appropriate dress.  Most events call for casual and comfortable attire.  South Carolina is very hot in the summer, and you’ll want to dress accordingly.  You may also want to bring comfortable walking shoes for the tours.

Transportation Service

All transportation to tours and events will be provided.  Please arrive on time at the Madren Center to ensure the bus can leave and arrive at tours on time.  There is ample parking for you to leave your car at the Madren Center during the tours.

Schedule of Events

Friday, July 26  — $50 per person

12 p.m. — Welcome Luncheon in the Grand Ballroom of the Madren Center. Please join us for a luncheon welcoming these special families and relatives to Clemson. Casual attire

2 p.m. — Guided Bus Tour of Historical Properties Tour. Join us for a tour of the historical sites related to the influential families that played a part in forming Clemson University, lead by Historical Prosperities Director and Curator Will Hiott.
Bus will depart at 2   p.m. from the Madren Conference Center.

Casual attire

6 p.m. — Orange Glove Event at Fort Hill. Visit the historical home of John C. Calhoun, his daughter Anna Maria Calhoun Clemson, and son in law whose will established Clemson University, Thomas Green Clemson.  This interactive heavy hors d’oeuvre reception will allow you to walk the grounds of Fort Hill, visit the rooms they lived in, and touch and feel historical artifacts and documents of all the historical families.
Bus will depart from the Madren Conference Center at 6 p.m.
Business casual attire

Saturday, July 27 — $50 per person

8 a.m. — Pin Your Heritage Breakfast Celebration. Join all the historical families as you track your heritage along family trees. Please bring any historical documents or pictures you may have to help the process. You may even meet a distant cousin!

9 a.m. — Group Photo and Additional Tours. After breakfast, we’ll depart to see more of the historical sites surrounding Clemson including Hanover House, and end at Hopewell, where a group photo will be taken.
Bus will depart Madren Conference Center at 9 a.m.

Casual Attire 

12 p.m. — Hopewell Event. While visiting Hopewell, a bar-b-que lunch will be served.  Family representatives and special guests will give remarks regarding the value of the Historical Families and their associated properties with Clemson University and why support is critical to furthering the legacy.

2 p.m. — Free Time. Please enjoy the Clemson area with friends and families.  There are a variety of activities you can participate in such as a campus tour, go hiking, etc.

Sunday, July 28 — $20 per person

8 a.m. — Concluding Breakfast. Join us for a light breakfast as we celebrate the historical families and the concluding of a great weekend!

Casual Attire. 

9 a.m. — Old Stone Church Service. Visit the historical site of Andrew Pickens’ burial and participate in a church service by local reverend Dr. Jack Stevenson.
Drive on your own; directions will be provided.
