- Alumni and Friends
The College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities believes in the power of mentoring and the effect that mentoring can have on a student’s academic, social and professional success. The CAAH Mentor Program was created in 2014 to provide a unique and valuable opportunity for students to gain skills, knowledge and expertise from a mentor with firsthand knowledge. Mentors selected for this program are Clemson alumni and friends who are successful and accomplished, and who have offered to volunteer their time and talents to mentor our students.
As a pilot, we started out with students from two majors — Law, Liberty and Justice and Landscape Architecture. After recruiting alumni from all over the Southeast, the CAAH Mentor Program was able to match twenty students with alumni in their desired career field.
With the success of the program in both majors, the CAAH Mentor Program was made available to all students within the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities in the fall of 2014. Within a year’s time, the program grew from 40 total participants to 234, with tremendous results for both students and alumni of the College.
The only requirement for our program’s mentors is that they be five years out of school. We also require that mentors communicate with their student a minimum of one time each month. Communication can be face-to-face, email, over the phone, or Skype. The CAAH Mentor Program hosts a reception each semester, and we warmly encourage our mentors to attend.
