Trip Leader Application

Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) has many great opportunities for Clemson University students as both participants and leaders of our outdoor adventure trip program. All of our adventure trips are lead by Clemson University students who receive life-long leadership and communication skills through outdoor recreation trainings and adventure trip leading experience. CORE is always looking for friendly and responsible trip leaders who are enthusiastic about gaining valuable experiences through outdoor leadership opportunities.

Trip Leader Structure and Requirements

The employees of CORE's trip leading program are organized into three successive positions: Volunteer, Trip Assistant, and Trip Leader. All students interested in working for CORE's adventure trip program must begin as a volunteers wishing to become Trip Leaders must follow the trip leader structure outlined below.

Volunteer

Before being promoted to a Trip Assistant, a volunteer must meet the following criteria.

  • Volunteer for at least one semester.
  • Volunteer for at least three trips.
  • Attend biweekly (every other week) trip leader meetings after each volunteered trip.
  • Attend the pre-trip meetings for the volunteered trips.
  • Attend a beginning of the semester Trip Leader Training Trip.
  • Subject to peer and supervisor evaluation.

Trip Assistant

Before being promoted to a Trip Leader, a Trip Assistant must meet the following criteria.

  • Trip Assist for at least one semester.
  • Trip Assist at least three trips.
  • Attend biweekly (every other week) trip leader meetings.
  • Attend pre-trip meetings.
  • Attend the beginning of the semester Trip Leader Training Trip.
  • Subject to peer and supervisor evaluation

Trip Leader

A Trip Leader must meet the following criteria to maintain the position of Trip Leader.

  • Trip Lead at least one trip per semester.
  • Attend biweekly (every other week) trip leader meetings.
  • Attend the beginning of the semester Trip Leader Training Trip.
  • Subject to peer and supervisor evaluation.

Selection of leaders' trip preferences is based on employees' experience, qualifications, relevant certifications, attendance at biweekly meetings, semester trainings, and general CORE involvement.

Interested in becoming a CORE Trip Leader?

CORE holds interviews during one week at the end of each semester. Fill out the online Trip Leader Application below and contact the CORE office to submit times that are best for you to meet with the staff during the scheduled interview week. Please note the important dates listed below. All applicants are required to attend the Trip Leader Training Trip at the beginning of the semester.
