Sexual Health and Violence Prevention

Free HIV and Hepatitis C Testing

Student Health Services will host AID Upstate once a month in Redfern Health Center.

AID Upstate will provide free, confidential rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing with same day results every third Thursday of the month starting Jan. 21.  They will also provide free, confidential screenings for other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that provide results several days later.

The free testing will be available every third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the lower level of Redfern Health Center.  No appointment necessary.

Students may always request to be screened for STIs during regular hours in Redfern Health Center. Lab fees will apply.

Sexual Health

The World Health Organization defines sexual health as “a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.”

Redfern offers free condoms to the students at the Pharmacy and in Health Promotion office. For information about STIs visit http://www.cdc.gov/women/az/std.htm.

Because sexual health encompasses so many areas, and because there is a great deal of misinformation on the Web, we have identified external websites that provide accurate and helpful information. Here is a list of topics covered:

Violence Prevention
