CLEMSON – Dr. Lamont A. Flowers, executive director of the Charles H. Houston Center, provided research for an article in The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine. This article, titled “Pell Grants: 40 Years of Success for Hispanics?” was published in the magazine’s January 2013 edition.

The purpose of this article was to determine the effectiveness of the Pell Grant Program in providing funds to low-income students over the past forty years.

“Research conducted at the Charles H. Houston Center provides strong support to suggest that the Pell Grant Program has been effective and continues to provide financial resources that lead to educational opportunities for African-American and Latino families and students who may not be able to afford the costs associated with obtaining a college degree,” Flowers says.

The Charles H. Houston Center strives to conduct research that explores access and equity issues in education while supporting academic achievement and student development.
