Research Workshop

The Charles H. Houston Center's Research Workshop is designed for faculty, staff, and students who are interested in learning about research methods and analytical techniques utilized to conduct research on the Black experience in education.

The Research Workshop is designed to help participants:

*Conduct research that explores issues impacting the educational experiences and outcomes of African Americans

*Utilize research procedures to analyze data pertaining to African Americans in educational settings

*Apply theoretical and conceptual information to explore contemporary issues regarding the Black experience in education

Research Workshop

The Spring 2014 Research Workshop will focus on exploring data assumptions for common statistical tests. Although violations of statistical assumptions can result in inaccurate results (Nimon, 2012), findings indicate that researchers aren’t always aware of when and how data assumptions should be checked (Hoekstra, Kiers, & Johnson, 2012). Participants in this workshop will learn to identify data assumptions for common statistical tests, how to check these assumptions using SPSS, why violations might be problematic, and remedies to correct or reduce the problem.

Date: Tuesday, March 25, 2014
