The research institute is designed to prepare doctoral students to study the African American experience in education and pursue the professoriate. The research institute is implemented in collaboration with Clemson University's Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education, Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's Urban Education Collaborative, and the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male at The Ohio State University. This year's research institute is sponsored by the American Educational Research Association’s Multicultural/Multiethnic Education: Theory, Research, and Practice Special Interest Group. The research institute honors the life and legacy of Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III and Dr. Barbara A. Sizemore.
