Pearce Center for Professional Communication

Student Interns

Pearce Student Interns

The Pearce Center offers semester-long internships that intro- duce students to the world of professional communication. Partnering with Clemson’s Undergraduate Professional Internship and Co-op program, Pearce Center Interns work on a variety of long-term projects including writing, editing, marketing, event pro- motion, video production, and graphic design. Through these projects, interns gain valuable experience that translates directly to their future careers.

The Pearce Center Internship Program seeks to capitalize on the depth and breadth of talent at Clemson by establishing a team of students from multiple disciplines. By drawing on their respective talents, Pearce Center Interns are able to achieve collaboratively results that would not be possible working individually.

Meet our Interns

Jessica Heron

Marketing/Communication Studies

Jessica Heron, Marketing/Communication Studies, Pearce Center Intern at Clemson University, Clemson South Carolina

My name is Jessica Heron and I am a junior at Clemson University pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Bachelor of Science in Marketing. I was born and raised in Irmo, South Carolina, a small town outside of Columbia. Thankfully, I grew up with the influence of many Clemson friends who introduced me to the beautiful place I now call home. Clemson has blessed me with many opportunities, both socially and academically, that I believe have heavily shaped who I am today and my preparation for my future career. Aside from being an intern in the Pearce Center, I am a member of the Calhoun Honors College, employed as a Writing Fellow for the Calhoun Honors College, and work as a Communication Studies Ambassador for the Communication Department. I currently hold the position of Formal Recruitment Chair for Alpha Delta Pi sorority and am passionately involved with the Clemson chapter of Students Helping Honduras. Becoming more involved on campus and within my departments has opened many doors for me and has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with Clemson's faculty, as well as my peers. My passion for mission work and nonprofit organizations is something that I hope to reflect in my future career. My dream job is to be head of the public relations and event planning for a hospital system, promoting health and wellness in the surrounding community and leading fundraising initiatives. When I'm not color-coding my schedule and running from class to organization meetings, I enjoy exercising, cheering on the Clemson Tigers, baking, movie nights, and road trips.

Jeff Kinnison

Computer Science/English WPS

Jeff Kinnison, Computer Science/English WPS, Pearce Center Intern at Clemson University, Clemson South Carolina

I came to Clemson from Maryland as a junior in 2010 to study English. While finishing my degree, I discovered a love for computers and programming, and have since taken on Computer Science as my second major. In addition to these, I am an audio engineer at DCF, a church from which local organizations rent a stage to put on dances and smaller shows. In my spare time, I am starting to train for marathon running and I write; make videos, video games, web sites, and mobile apps; and play several instruments.

I was one of the inaugural Pearce Center Studio Interns and have worked on numerous projects in my time here. My largest projects have been developing a website for Upstart, a Journal of Renaissance Studies ( www.clemson.edu/upstart); writing articles for Decipher, Clemson's Creative inquiry magazine; and creating a layout for an employee manual for the international nonprofit Worldreader. In addition to these, I write up Pearce Center events, edit various documents and publications, and create tutorials for future interns.

I am pursuing a degree in English (with a Writing & Publications focus) and a French minor at Clemson. I spend quite a bit of my time reading just about everything. I also like to write, and make people laugh, so I am looking for a career where I can do both. I plan to attend graduate school somewhere north. Outside of my wonderful classes I enjoy being outside with my friends the most. I love to run and do yoga, but am up for almost any activity. I watch way too many movies, and drink way too much coffee, and also enjoy painting. I have been named Executive Editor of Decipher Magazine for the Pearce Center, and I am also a tutor at the Clemson Writing Center and a Children's Reading Tutor at Clemson Elementary School for the America Reads Program.

My name is Christa Chappell, and I am a sophomore at Clemson University. Although I am currently undeclared, I am in the process of transferring into the Communication Studies major. I am from Wilmington, Delaware, a small town about twelve hours away from Clemson. Although I am so far away from my family and friends, I have enjoyed every second of my Clemson experience, and the school truly has become my home. Aside from being an intern with the Pearce Center, I am a member of the Delta Zeta sorority, where I am currently the Community Service Chairwoman, Recruitment Round Chair, and member of the Public Relations Committee. I am also a writer for Her Campus Clemson, an online publication that focuses on topics interesting to college-aged women. Reality television is my guilty pleasure, but I also love running, cheering on the Tigers, and traveling. Although I am interested in many areas of Communication Studies, my dream job would be a mix of fashion and event planning.

In addition to SHH, I am an active member of Kappa Delta sorority and Clemson Student Government's Transfer Council. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, traveling abroad, vacationing at the beach over the summer, and, of course, attending Clemson football games.
