Starting in the right math is critical to success in your major. Since there are so many options, Clemson University works hard to ensure that you are in the correct math right from the start.
All entering students MUST take the Clemson Math Placement Test (CMPT) BEFORE attending orientation! You must take the CMPT even if you expect to bring in calculus credit through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests. Freshmen AND new transfers who are bringing in equivalent math courses from other colleges or universities are also REQUIRED to take the CMPT before orientation. Failure to do so will result in being placed in pre-calculus. This will delay graduation.
