The School of Computing is excited to announce the initiation of a new PhD degree in Human-Centered Computing (HCC). The HCC PhD degree is the first in the state of South Carolina and the 3rd in the entire nation. It is designed so that students receive significant training in understanding how to design, build and evaluate computational technologies as they relate to the human condition and how these technologies affect society. The degree requires students to demonstrate competency in the areas of computing, people or human the condition, experimental research methods and a cognate or specialty area. Areas of exceptional research strength in the HCC division include virtual humans, virtual reality, 3D user interface design, biometrics, social computing, information technology policy and data mining. The HCC PhD degree will be officially offered beginning the Fall of 2011.
