The Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomes industrial partners and colleagues from other universities who want to be involved in, and contribute to our teaching and research missions. The Department adopted the following guidelines/policy for Adjunct positions:
The candidate will have the educational background and professional experience appropriate to the specific activity in which they will engage and which qualifies them to be considered for appointment.
The candidate will provide a specific service to the Department. Such service would be identified as one of more of the following: a). Serving as a thesis committee member or co-advisor of a specific student. b). Teaching a new or existing course within a year of applying for appointment. c). Working with departmental faculty members to conduct research on a specific topic or to develop funding to initiate or sustain such research.
The appointee will provide a short summary of their contributions and a request to either continue or suspend their appointment at the conclusion of three years of service. The TPR Committee will use this information to recommend to the Chair the advisability of reappointment for another term. Without this information and request, the appointment will expire three years after it is initiated.
The Chair will inform the candidate of these guidelines when a request for appointment is being discussed and will include them in the letter offering appointment.
