SECOND CIRCULAR AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
======================================

10th INTEGRAL Workshop
"A Synergistic View of the High Energy Sky"
15-19 September 2014
Annapolis, MD, USA

Website: http://www.clemson.edu/ces/physics-astro/conferences/INTEGRAL/
Contact workshop e-mail: integral10ws@sciops.esa.int

The 10th INTEGRAL workshop will take place in historic Annapolis, Maryland, USA. It is
situated on the Chesapeake Bay, and home to the United States Naval Academy. The location of
the workshop will be `The Historic Inns', located in downtown Annapolis. The goal of this
workshop is to present and discuss the latest results obtained in the field of high-energy
astrophysics using the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory, INTEGRAL, and
place these results in the context of other space-based missions, such as Swift, Fermi, AGILE,
NuSTAR, Suzaku and MAXI, as well as ground-based VHE observatories. Correlative studies in
lower energy bands, as well as neutrino- and gravitational wave observations are included as
relevant for various source classes.

The workshop addresses the following scientific topics:
# X-ray binaries (involving black holes, neutron stars, and white dwarfs)
# Isolated neutron stars (gamma-ray pulsars, magnetars)
# Nucleosynthesis (SNe, Novae, SNRs, ISM) and #-ray lines, including 511 keV)
# Galactic diffuse continuum emission (including Galactic Ridge)
# Massive black holes in AGNs (blazars, and the nucleus of the Milky Way)
# Sky surveys, source populations and unidentified gamma-ray sources
# Cosmic background radiation
# Gamma-ray bursts
# Progress in data processing and analysis
# Future instruments and missions

Scientific Program
------------------
The scientific conference will take place from 15 to 19 September, each day from about 9:30 to
18:00, including coffee and lunch breaks, and time for poster viewing. Wednesday afternoon is
free; a social program is foreseen, and on Thursday evening we will host the conference dinner.
The program will be organized around science themes, and each session includes invited review
talks introducing active missions, selected oral contributions (20 min), as well as posters.

Important Dates
---------------
Second circular and registration open - Early May 2014
Abstract submission deadline - 31 May 2014
Preliminary Scientific Program - mid-June 2014
Early Registration Deadline (basic fee) - 15 July 2014
Late Registration Deadline (increased fee) - 15 August 2014
WORKSHOP - 15 - 19 September 2014

Venue Location and General Information
--------------------------------------
Annapolis is known for its fresh seafood (especially Chesapeake blue crabs), sailing, Colonial-era
buildings, and historic sites. It is approximately an one hour drive east of Washington, DC,
and a 40 minute drive south of Baltimore, MD. The location of the workshop will be `The
Historic Inns', located in downtown Annapolis, which are comprised of 3 buildings spread
around State Circle that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Some general information
about Annapolis, the weather in September and web links for tourist information can be found
at: http://www.visitannapolis.org/ or http://www.visit-annapolis.org/.
Registration is open, via the link posted on the conference web site, or by clicking the URL:
http://www.clemson.edu/ces/physics-astro/conferences/INTEGRAL/registration.html.
A registration fee of $ 400 will be charged to each participant, except students for whom the fee
is $ 200. Financial support is not yet available, but the organizers will seek additional funds from
sponsoring organizations. The early registration deadline is 15 July 2014. After this date the
registration fee will increase to $ 500 ($ 250 for students). The ultimate payment deadline is 15
Aug 2014.
Cash payment cannot be accepted, and excursions are not included in the registration fee.
Conference dinner tickets for guests can be added at an extra charge of $ 50. You must register
and pay for the conference through the Clemson University eMarketplace website, hosted by
TouchNet. American Express, BC Card, DinaCard, Discover, MasterCard, and VISA credit
cards are accepted.

Abstract Submission (until May 31)
----------------------------------
Abstract of proposed oral and poster contributions shall be submitted through the Abstract page
of the conference web site. Papers describing data processing and data analysis methods can be
accepted as posters only. Contributed oral presentations should aim for 15 min presentation,
allowing 5 min discussion afterwards. The abstract submission deadline is 31 May 2014.
Submissions will be reviewed by the SAC. Late abstracts will be considered in the event of `hot'
new results not known at the time of the deadline. Accepted abstracts and the scientific program
will be available on the conference web site around mid-June 2014. Poster presentation format
constraints will be communicated soon.

Travel support and Invitation Letters
-------------------------------------
As with all past INTEGRAL workshops, the organizers will make an effort to provide some
financial support to help participants as needed (e.g., students) to attend the workshop. Student
registration is already reduced by 50%, but additional travel support relies solely on extra funds,
which may become available through sponsors. Request should be submitted after registration.
Invitation letters to obtain a visa can then be requested with an email to hdieter@clemson.edu
(please use "your name - Invitation request" in the subject line).

Accommodation
-------------
Participants are requested to make their own hotel room reservation. We have arranged for a
reduced room rate of $ 121 per night (plus 6% MD state sales tax and 7% Anne Arundel
Lodging tax, amounting to a total of $ 136.73) with a room block. There is free Wi-Fi in the
meeting spaces and guest rooms.
To make reservations you can call the Hotel directly at 410-263-2641 and indicate your room
rate with the block name "NASA14". You can reserve a room online at:
https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=12126&Chain=5415&shell=historicshell&arrive=9/14/2014&depart=9/18/2014&adult=1&child=0&group=NASA14
When booking online at the link above, the group code "NASA14" will populate
automatically. If you attempt to make a reservation from the main page of the Historic Inns
website, then you should enter "NASA14" where it says Group Code.
The online reservation page only allows a selection of Sept 14 (Sunday) check in, and Sept 18
(Thursday) last night, i.e., check out on Friday the 19th. If you need additional nights prior or

conference hotel is limited. In case of overflow, we will post additional hotel options on the
conference website.

Social Events
-------------
The registration fee does not include social events on Wednesday afternoon. We will arrange for
several options with local tourist organizations. Conference dinner tickets for accompanying
persons can be added at the time of registration, and likely also at a time closer to the event.

Workshop Proceedings
--------------------
All contributions (invited, contributed oral talks and posters) will be refereed via the Science
Advisory Committee (SAC). Refereed contributions will be published on-line via Proceedings of
Science http://pos.sissa.it. Scientific editors are N. Gehrels, D. Hartmann and E. Kuulkers.
Further information and instructions to authors for the preparation of manuscripts will be
provided in due course. To guarantee publication of a contribution it must have been presented
(orally or as a poster) by the lead author or by one of the co-authors during the workshop.
