Classroom instruction is set in picturesque Paderno del Grappa, 25 miles north of Venice. Students enjoy the cultural experience of a small Italian community while having direct access to the art and historic treasures of Venice, Padua, Verona, and Treviso.
The Physics Summer School in Paderno, Italy is jointly sponsored and administered by Clemson University's Department of Physics & Astronomy and by the Consortium International University (CIU). The Consortium campus is located in the town of Paderno del Grappa. CIU is a full-service campus, nestled in the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains, about 40 km north of Venice.
PHYS 481 & 482 provide 5 credits in theoretical and experimental surface physics. The experimental portion includes hands-on experience at one of Europe's premier surface physics labs, ELETTRA in Trieste.

Includes: Summer school tuition for five credits, lodging and all meals for the entire study, all excursions, & special lectures and tours.
Excludes: Roundtrip travel between US and Italy, personal items/shopping, and weekend personal travel.
Application: Submit application (pdf) through the Office of International Affairs with $255 deposit. For full consideration, applications must be completed by March 1, 2011. Applications received or completed after that date will be considered only as space in the course is available.

Students live in dormitories on campus, with meals provided in the campus cafeteria. Facilities include a gym and swimming pool.
Classes are held Monday-Thursday, allowing 3-day weekends to explore the region. Excellent local hiking is available, and many historical cities and sites are reached by a short train ride (Venice, Bologna, Florence, Pisa).
