University Facilities' is organized with a Chief Facilities Officer who works on a daily basis with a number of directors, one for each department within our organization.
Bob Wells became the Chief Facilities Officer at Clemson in August 1999 after a seven year stint at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, two years as the Director of Capital Projects and five years as the Chief Facilities Officer. Prior to UNC Charlotte, Bob spent 20 years as an officer in the Coast Guard managing construction projects and facilities at Coast Guard facilities along the Gulf Coast and Atlantic seaboard. After graduating from high school in Columbia, SC, he attended the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Masters in Civil Engineering and is registered as a Professional Engineer in North and South Carolina.
Todd Barnette has served as Director of Support Services for a number of years, and within his role he has assisted in addressing the operational needs of departments inside and out of Facilities. Todd is primarily tasked with directing Quality Assurance, Training Development, Financial Administration, Network Administration, Human Resources, and Maintenance Stores.
Boyce Woolbright first served as Interim Director of Maintenance Services before taking on the position permanently. He is responsible for directing Facilities' maintenance operations.
Credit for Clemson University's well-maintained campus can be attributed to Facilities' Landscape Services department, under the direction of Tommy Fallaw. Tommy is responsible for overall Landscape Maintenance, Refuse Collection, Road and Parking Lot Maintenance, and Moving Services.
Gerald Vander Mey plays a significant role in the evolution of Clemson University's campus. As Director of Campus Planning, he and his department are tasked with the challenge of addressing long and short-term planning issues, as well as developing solutions to ever-changing demands of students, faculty and staff.
Having worked for Facilities as a Project Manager for years, John McEntire is now responsible for managing both Capital Projects and Project Management.
Tom Jones is our Director of Custodial, Recycling, Solid Waste and Special Events. Tom's primary responsibilities as Director include planning and directing environmental management within University Facilities. He is also responsible for managing campus-based special project services and events.
Tony Putnam joined Clemson University as Director of Utility Services in August 2008. Tony and his department's major responsibilities are efficient and effective operation and maintenance of the electrical, mechanical, potable and waste water treatment systems. The department is tasked with regulatory compliance of utility operations, planning utility infrastructure for future campus development and enhanced reliability, promulgating energy and water conservation initiatives, providing "living lab" opportunities for student and faculty collaboration, and evaluating sustainable energy alternatives.
W. Robert "Robin" Newberry, IV became the Director of Environmental Safety after being the Director of Environmental Health and Safety since June of 1995. Previous to that Robin spent five years at Southern Research Institute in Birmingham Alabama in various EHS positions, including Chemical Hygiene Officer, Radiation Safety Officer, Hazardous Waste Manager, Senior Safety Administrator, and TAF lab safety Manager. After graduating from high school in Birmingham, he attended Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master of Science in in Public Health in Epidemiology, and is Certified Industrial Hygienist and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.
