The School of Education was developing a new program for the future educators in the Arts Education field. The facility required was to encompass the capacity for visual arts and performance arts. Flexible space, storage, and clean-up facilities, as well as specialty areas were prerequisites for the task of teaching a variety of disciplines. Along with open classroom space, a 630 square foot sprung wooden dance floor/stage area was constructed. Appropriate hardware and appliances were installed to provide studio conditions and atmosphere.
Concept work on the space to be used in G-01 Godfrey was begun in June of 2012, funding for the project was approved in September, and the first class use was Spring Semester 2013. Along with an "open ceiling" architecture, colors were chosen to give a studio feel to the space. Dimmable LED lighting was installed to give excellent lighting quality and to avoid heat build up in the area when there was rigorous physical activity. Audio and visual systems were installed for performance accompaniment and evaluation.Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 Shot 5
