Refund Schedule for Academic Fees

Refund of Academic Fees (Tuition, University Fee, and Health Fee) for Students Withdrawing, Dropping to Part Time, or Part-Time Students Dropping Credit Hours

No refunds will be made on a semester’s tuition and fees after four weeks from the last day to register. In the case of a total withdrawal from the University, refunds will be based on the effective date of the withdrawal.  In the case of a withdrawal from one or more courses (not a total withdrawal), refunds will be based on the date the student drops the course using the on-line registration system. To be eligible for a refund, the student’s request must be received by Student Financial Services prior to the beginning of the next fall/spring semester or subsequent summer term.

How are refunds calculated?

Student academic fees are “capped” at the full-time rate, once the per credit hour rate multiplied by the number of credit hours exceeds the applicable full-time academic fee amount.  This means that, in most cases, there is a direct benefit to the student taking more than 12 credit hours.

When a student taking 12 or more credit hours drops a course during the drop refund period, the student’s fees will be adjusted based on the number of liable hours during the period.

For example:

An undergraduate, in-state student is registered for 13 credit hours.  They drop 8 hours during the 80% refund period:

In-State Full-Time Academic Fee    $6723.00
In-State Part-Time rate (per credit hour)    $ 576.00
Refund Calculation    How it appears on the bill
5 credit hours @ part-time rate    $2880.00    Undergrad In-State Academic Fee $6723.00
8 credit hours @ part-time rate    +$4608.00    Undergrad In-State Academic Fee -$2921.40
Reduction based on drop date in 80% period
$4368 (8 dropped hours) x 80% refund    -$3686.40
New Academic Fee    =$3801.60

Please note that some student fees are non-refundable. The drop date is based on the drop date in the system. This date is not determined by Student Financial Services.
