Department of Public Health Sciences lecturer Ralph Welsh, M.S., Ph.D. (candidate), has been named a winner in the international 2013 Rich Media Impact Awards, an award program that recognizes the use of rich media capture and webcasting achievements in higher education.

Welsh's earned this recognition as a result of using the MediaSite product, a video content capture, management and webcasting system by Sonic Foundry, Inc., to enhance student engagement and promote the use of video capture as a staple of higher education learning. He was a winner in the Video in Education Scholarship category, which recognizes academic excellence in higher education through video and provides an opportunity for students to reach their full potential through online, blended or distance learning.

"Over the last several years, Ralph has used video capture and distribution as a key component in all of his classes", said Lee Crandall, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Public Health Sciences. "Imagine being able to review class lectures, anytime, as frequently as you wish. I have no doubt that Ralph's use of this technology not only enhances student engagement, but also directly impacts positive student outcomes."

Mediasite users nominated organizations that achieved measurable improvements in information accessibility, cost savings, efficiency and productivity through Mediasite. This year’s finalists joined more than 150 organizations from around the world that have been recognized since 2005.

Welsh's award was given during the April 29 awards ceremony in Madison, Wis.
