Instructional Support and Training FAQs
Am I required to get approval before I can teach online?
In the near future, Clemson Online will provide all faculty members with a required instructional support and training program before the instructor teaches online courses. The anticipated program will “grandfather” in current faculty members teaching online for a reasonable and limited period of time.
When and how will I find out about support and training requirements?
When Clemson Online instructional support and training opportunities are made available (anticipated to begin Fall 2013), faculty members and department/program chairs will be contacted about requirements, availability, and scheduling.
Why do I need special consideration for my online instruction?
Online course facilitation requires special pedagogical and technological considerations. Clemson Online’s instructional support and training program will be designed to ensure that all faculty members are equipped with the necessary conceptual and technical skills for online facilitation equivalent to Clemson’s current high education standards for on-campus instruction. Modular design, competency benchmarks, and/or “testing out” features will likely be included in the program, ensuring efficient review for Clemson’s adept faculty.
Who should I contact if I have questions/concerns about the instructional support and training program?
Clemson Online is open to all inquiries regarding our instructional support and training program ( Contact Us). Please also consider sharing your interests with your colleagues on the Faculty Advisory Board as they help guide the new initiative.
