Getting Started

This checklist provides the steps necessary to initiate animal research projects, procure and maintain animals, and schedule animal research procedures and training.

Do you have an approved Animal Use Protocol (AUP)?
All research and teaching projects involving the use of live vertebrate animals must be approved by the Clemson University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) prior to procurement of animals for the study. For more information on how to complete and submit an Animal Use Protocol for approval, contact the IACUC administrator in the Office of Research Compliance at (864) 656-4538 or by iacuc@clemson.edu.

Are you ready to procure animals for your project?
If you have an approved Animal Use Protocol (AUP), you can submit a request for animals by completing an Animal Order Form and submitting it to Research Services. For assistance, contact Melody Willey at (864) 656-0908.

Do you need to schedule animal procedures?
If you have an approved Animal Use Protocol, you can schedule procedures described in that AUP by completing and submitting a Service Request Form to Research Services. In some cases, you might want to schedule animal work before you have ordered or received your animals. For assistance, contact Melody Willey at (864) 656-0908.

Do you need training to perform animal procedures?
If you are listed as personnel on an approved Animal Use Protocol you can schedule training to perform procedures associated with that AUP by completing and submitting a Service Request Form to Research Services. For assistance, contact Melody Willey at (864) 656-0908.
