Steven Albright

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Steve was a paramedic lieutenant (retired) with Sedgwick County EMS, where he had served since 1988. Prior to entering the EMS field, Steve was in law enforcement and served as the Chief of Police for Rose Hill and was a Sedgwick County deputy sheriff. In addition to his EMS and law enforcement experience, Steve has extensive training in WMD and NBC topics and provides lectures to all Cowley MICT students in this area.

T.C. Bodwell

Awards:

T.C. completed the 2008 Cowley College 12-Month MICT Program, where he earned the Lyle E. Eckhart award for the class . T.C. was also the 2008-2009 Outstanding Cowley College Allied Health Graduate. He is a full-time paramedic with Sedgwick County EMS.

Cindy Branscum

Cindy began her teaching at Cowley in 1994 by teaching A&P as an adjunct faculty member. She completed Cowley's first MICT program in 1997 and continued teaching in EMS since that time in the MICT program and by providing EMT classes. In 2000, she became the full-time Lead MICT Instructor and has worked with the Director of EMS Education to coordinate and instruct the MICT classes. In 2009, Cindy transitioned to a part-time staff instructor position. She is a full-time ICU nurse at Galichia Heart Hospital and a nursing instructor with Pratt Community College.

She has a bachelor of science degree in biology from Colorado State University. In the fall of 2008, Cindy completed her RN degree from the School of Nursing program through Excelsior College in Albany, New York.

Cindy is engaged to Lyle Webster of Wichita. Cindy and Lyle each have three children. There are a total of five girls and one boy. Cindy enjoys watching her kids in their various activities that include volleyball, football, basketball, track, orchestra, and band. In order to keep current in the EMS field, she works for Winfield EMS.

Chris Cannon

Chris Cannon functions as both the Director of EMS Education and as chair of the Allied Health Department. As the Department Chair, he guides and oversees all EMS courses, healthcare-related courses, the MICT program, the Nursing Home Administrator program, Pratt’s LPN/RN program, Certified Medication Aide, Certified Nurse Assistant, Home Health Aide and Restorative Aide classes, EMS leadership degree and certificate, Medical Coding program, and nutrition, medical transcription and medical terminology classes, develops academic policy for the college, develops new college academic programs, evaluates and approves curricular changes at the college, and a host of other duties. He is responsible for guiding and ensuring excellence within the department.

As the Director of EMS education, he is responsible for all aspects of the EMS division. He co-teaches the 12-month MICT program with Malachi Winters and the 18-month MICT program with Deryk Ruddle. He acts as the academic advisor for all pre-MICT majors and other allied health majors. He is responsible for guiding and ensuring excellence within the division and the continued accreditation of the MICT program.

Chris graduated from Cowley’s first MICT program in 1997 and then worked as a field paramedic and training officer for Butler County EMS. He has been a Cowley adjunct faculty member since 1998 and a full-time MICT instructor since 2005. With many years of EMS experience - including full-time ALS, volunteer fire fighting and BLS first response - he brings an intimate understanding of many different EMS systems to the classroom.

Chris enjoys writing and teaching. His most current article, who he co-authored with Dr. Danks, is entitled "Concussion and Second Impact Syndrome" can be found in the August 2006 issue of JEMS.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a master of science degree in leadership from Southwestern College.

Chris and his wife Mandy live in Winfield with their daughter Libby and son Max. He enjoys participating in 3 gun competitions, golf and internet discussion forums.

Terri Griffiths

AHA Training Center Coordinator

Awards:

Terri has over 20 years of healthcare experience as both a provider in EMS and nursing, and as a leader in the field. She will provide a great perspective to this class and has years of clinical experience in EMS and nursing. She is currently employed as the Vice President of Patient Services & Chief Nursing Officer at Anthony Medical Center. She worked at Leavenworth County EMS as an MICT and rose to the rank of Captain. She completed both her MICT certificate and BSN at the University of Kansas and her MBA at the University of Phoenix. At Cowley, she is the American Heart Association Training Center Coordinator and teaches online pharmacology, first aid, and leadership courses for the college. She is looking forward to contributing to the growth of healthcare professionals.

Craig Isom

Craig completed the Cowley MICT program in 1999 where he received the Lyle E. Eckhart Award for the class. Craig is currently employed as a full time paramedic Lieutenant by Winfield Area EMS. He holds an AGS degree from Cowley College and a BS degree in business administration from Southwestern College. He has worked as an adjunct faculty member at Cowley since 1998.

Stefani has three primary responsibility areas that include acting as the Coordinator of Allied Health Support Services, functioning as the Winfield Center Coordinator and as an assistant for the Pratt Community College nursing program faculty and administration. She is responsible to the Chair of the Allied Health Education Department for the general operation of activities at the Winfield Center, Allied Health Department faculty and the Pratt Community College faculty and administration.

Ryan Kilby

Awards:

Ryan graduated from the 2006-2007 Cowley MICT program where he received the Lyle E. Eckhart award for the class. Ryan has been an active member in EMS in his community since 2005 when he joined the Winfield Area EMS reserves. He is currently employed full-time for Winfield Area EMS and part-time for Sedgwick County EMS as a paramedic. He plans to further his education in the near future and obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration and an associate's degree in nursing.

Danielle McNaught

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Danielle completed the 2007 Cowley MICT program, and as a paramedic with TransCare of Kansas LLC, and as an RRT with Allen County Hospital. She resides in Neodesha with her son Bradley and their pets Panda Bear, Koala Bear and Patch-a-Doodle. On her time off she enjoys outdoor activities such as paintball and canoeing, reading, and scrapbooking.

Joseph Menadue

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Joseph took his EMT-B class at Hutchinson Community College in 2002. After completing EMT-B school he volunteered for Halstead EMS and worked for HCC as a lab assistant. In 2003, he took his EMT-I class and volunteered for Moundridge EMS. Joseph completed paramedic school in 2005, and worked at Wesley Medical Center. Je also worked part-time for Reno County EMS before becoming a full-time paramedic with Butler EMS in 2005.

During his employment with Butler EMS, Joseph has become a member of the Traning Division, Butler County Rescue Squad, and Butler County SWAT Team. He holds the rank of L2, and continues to work at Butler EMS, a job he takes great PRIDE in.

Paul Misasi

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Awards:

Paul has years of experience as a paramedic lieutenant with Sedgwick County EMS and is a contributing editor for the KEMSA Chronicle.  He is also the creator, editor and contributor of the email newsletter entitled Prehospital Academic & Literature Survey Quarterly (PALSY).  He is a well known regional EMS lecturer on the topic of therapeutic hypothermia. 

In addition to being a lab assistant and clinical coordinator for the MICT program, Paul is also the CCEMTP coordinator for Cowley College. He oversees all aspects of conducting these courses under Cowley's CCEMTP educational site license from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Paul holds an AAS degree from Coffeyville Community College, a BS degree from Wichita State University and a MS degree in Emergency Health Services from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Cole Mitchell

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Cole completed the first Cowley evening MICT program in 2007 and was the student representative on the Cowley EMS Advisory Committee. He is currently employed as a full-time paramedic by Sedgwick County EMS and works part-time for Mulvane EMS. He is also a Personal Athletic Trainer. He holds an AAS degree from Cowley College and plans to finish his bachelor's degree and pursue further education in medicine.

He also received the Cowley College Allied Health Student of the year for 2004-2005. He is currently employed as a full-time flight paramedic with EagleMed. He holds an AAS degree from Cowley College and a BS degree from Fort Hays State University.

Chet Ranzau

Awards:

Chet has many years of emergency services experience. He has extensive experience with fire fighting, rescue and extrication, EMS, and volunteerism. Upon graduating from Cowley's MICT program, he worked at Butler County EMS and later became a full-time paramedic/firefighter at his hometown with Arkansas City Fire Department. He has an AAS degree from Cowley and a BS degree from Southwestern College. He plans to start a graduate degree program in the near future.

Luke Ratzlaff

Shorlty after graduating from Newton High School, Luke attended the EMT-Basic course through Cowley. He continued his education at Cowley and pursued his interest in EMS by completing the 2008 12-Month MICT Program. Luke currently works as an MICT for Winfield Area EMS and Sedgwick County EMS. In his time off he enjoys the restoration of his 1966 Mustang.

Deryk Ruddle

Lead MICT Instructor

Awards:

Deryk is the MICT instructor for the Cowley 18-month MICT program. Deryk is a graduate of the 2005 Cowley College MICT program where he received the Patrick J. McAtee Award for the class. Prior to becoming a full-time EMS instructor, he worked for Butler County EMS for several years and continues to work part-time for them as a field and tactical medic.

Deryk works with the Director of EMS Education to coordinate and instruct the MICT classes. This includes lectures, coordination of laboratory experiences and assistants, writing/grading homework, quizzes, and tests, coordination of PALS, PHTLS, ACLS, NRP, AMLS and BLS classes for certification, scheduling guest lecturers and outside instruction of WMD, HAZMAT, and vehicle extrication, serving as a clinical coordinator at hospitals, contacting and assigning field internship preceptors, and reporting student progress. Deryk also coordinates and instructs the Cowley tactical EMS courses.

Prior to entering the EMS workforce, he served for 4 years with the Unites States Marine Corps. Deryk and his wife Tracy live in Augusta with their sons Logan and Maddock. Deryk enjoys golf, fishing, snow skiing, and target shooting.

Dr. Chandy Samuel

Medical Director

Dr. Samuel is a general surgeon who is very active providing patient care in our community and guidance to the Cowley EMS programs. He completed his Doctor of Medicine studies at Vellore, India along with post-graduate training in surgery at the Christian Medical College and completed his surgical residency and more post-graduate surgery training at St. Joseph College Hospital at Syracuse, New York. He has acted as the Medical Advisor for Winfield Area EMS since 1985 and became the Cowley EMS education Medical Advisor several years after that. He is a partner and general surgeon with Winfield Medical Arts and performs surgery at both William Newton Hospital in Winfield and South Central Region Medical Center at Arkansas City.

He is married to Shanti Samuel, MD, who is the Director of Pathology at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. She provides the Cowley MICT students pathology training at her laboratory. They both enjoy gardening and have one of the finest flowers gardens in this region of Kansas.

Scott Stueven

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Awards:

Scott began his career with emergency services in 1994 with the Augusta Department of Public Safety Fire Division as a volunteer firefighter. He finished his EMT-B in 1996 and obtained his EMT-I/D later the same year. Scott began working part-time for Butler County EMS in 1996. He completed his MICT training through Barton County in 1997, and worked for a year at Emporia Fire Rescue. Scott returned to Butler County EMS as a full-time paramedic in 1999, where he still works today. He is the designated infection control officer for BCEMS, and coordinates the department's infection control program and policies. He is also the lead Tactical Medic with the Butler County Sheriff's Department.

Aaron Sutton

Eckhart Award for the class.  Aaron is currently employed at Sedgwick County EMS, and was previously employed at Arkansas City Fire/EMS.   Aaron holds AAS, AS, AA and AGS degrees from Cowley College and a BS degree from Friends University in Organizational Management and Leadership.

Forrest Walker

Forrest completed Cowley’s MICT program in 2002 where he received the Patrick J. McAtee Award for the class. He works full time as a paramedic at Sedgwick County EMS and volunteers for the Whitewater Fire Department. Prior to entering the EMS field, he served a tour of duty with the US Navy.

Lyle Webster

Lab Assistant/Clinical Coordinator

Awards:

Lyle brings to the classroom 30 years of street experience intermixed with 15 years of experience as a flight paramedic with LifeWATCH. In 1997, Lyle received the Sedgwick County Paramedic of the year award. He has served Sedgwick County EMS as an Operations Captain for 12 years during which time his crews consistently performed with the best response times, the highest proficiency test scores and the lowest sick leave record. Lyle retired from Sedgwick County EMS in 2010, but stays involved with EMS as a flight medic with LifeStar in Topeka. He brings a realistic approach to the classroom because of his experience in both training and operations.

Josh Whiteside

Awards:

Josh completed the Cowley MICT program in 2005 and received the Honor Graduate Award for his class.  He holds an AS degree from Butler Community College, an AAS degree from Cowley College, and a BS degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Friends University.  He is employed as a full-time MICT with Butler County EMS.  Josh is very active within Butler County EMS as a member of the medical protocol committee, member of the bike team, committee member of the explorer program and serves as the EMS training liaison for El Dorado Fire Department.  He is also a lab assistant for Butler Community College’s EMS education department.  Josh’s future plans include possibly entering the WSU physician assistant program.

Malachi Winters

Lead MICT Instructor

Malachi is the MICT Instructor for the Cowley 12-month MICT program.  Malachi has been an MICT since 2000. Prior to becoming a full time MICT Instructor, Malachi worked full time for Sedgwick County EMS since 2001.  He served as a Lieutenant at Sedgwick County since 2008.  Prior to his service at Sedgwick County, Malachi worked as a full time EMT at Butler County EMS for several years. 

Malachi works with the Director of EMS Education to coordinate and instruct the MICT classes. This includes lectures, coordination of laboratory experiences and assistants, writing/grading homework, quizzes, and tests, coordination of PALS, PHTLS, ACLS, NRP, AMLS and BLS classes for certification, scheduling guest lecturers and outside instruction of WMD, HAZMAT, and vehicle extrication, serving as a clinical coordinator at hospitals, contacting and assigning field internship preceptors, and reporting student progress.

Malachi lives in Wichita with his wife Andrea and two sons, Hayden and Lucian.  He is an avid reader with an affinity towards science and technology subjects.  Malachi also enjoys boating, snow-skiing, and camping.
