Don Hollenback
Class of 1951
Outstanding Tiger Alumni 1991

Don Hollenback
It’s been 40 years since Jack Stark and Don Hollenback received their degrees from Arkansas City Junior College, and since their departure the two men have helped change the lives of many people.

It’s their professional achievement and service to others that has earned them the Outstanding Alumni award for 1991 from what is now called Cowley County Community College.

Hollenback is a retired industrial engineer from Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. He worked at Boeing for 34 years and had a hand in the development of some of the most sophisticated aircraft this nation has ever known.

He organized the assembly process on the B-52 Bomber to maximize productivity, and he was instrumental in the sub-assembly of the 737 aircraft. He also supervised numerous projects for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, including Saturn V, Apollo, and the development and delivery of the land rover vehicle used in the first landing on the moon.

Toward the end of his career, Hollenback was involved in the pre-planning, mock-up and implementation of the largest modification project in Wichita, the conversion of a 747-200 aircraft into Air Force One, the President of the United States’ private jet.

Hollenback and his wife Bonnie have lived in Arkansas City and have been active in the community with Little League baseball, Cowley football for two years, and the Masonic Lodge, where Don is a 32nd Degree Mason.

Hollenback was unavailable for comment.
