Cowley holds 11th Annual Technology Day

Seventy-four students from high schools in and around the Cowley County region participated in the 11th Annual Technology Day held at Cowley College on Wednesday.

Students in grades 10-12 rotated through six of Cowley’s Industrial Technology Department programs: Non-Destructive Testing, Machine Tool Technology, Welding Technology, Drafting Technology, Automotive Technology, and Pre-Agriculture.

Instructors within those six programs spoke to students while current Cowley students enrolled in those programs conducted demonstrations. Technology Day activities lasted three hours and were held in the Walker Industrial Technology Building on the main campus in Arkansas City.

“It’s a great way for area high school students to see what we have in the way of technical programs,” said Bruce Crouse, chairman of Cowley’s IT Department. “We’ve always say that a prospective student can read about our programs, but we really encourage them to come to campus and see the facilities and the equipment and talk with the instructor in person. It’s a pretty valuable day.”

Cowley Welding Technology Instructor Bob Moffatt demonstrates a welding component in his program to a group of high school students during Wednesday's 11th Annual Technology Day.

Cowley Drafting Technology Instructor Cliff Roderick shows a group of high school students some of the features of his program Wednesday during the 11th Annual Technology Day.

Students were treated to pop and a snack at the conclusion of the day. Door prizes also were given.
