Vollweider to retire at end of semester
After 25 years as an instructor at Cowley College, Chris Vollweider, Instructor/Director of Adult Education and Study Skills programs, submitted a letter of retirement, effective May 31, to the Board of Trustee’s during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.
Vollweider teaches developmental courses which include College Reading, Becoming a Master Student, and Rapid Reading. As the director of adult education, she has a staff of 21 instructors. She also serves as an advisor to students who are considered developmental or have undecided majors.
She has served on or chaired many teams at the college, including twice on the North Central Accreditation team. Her first position at Cowley was basic skills assistant, where she was responsible for the English labs.
“She has done a terrific job for us, we will miss her,” Cowley College President Dr. Pat McAtee said. “She has taken all kinds of students under her wing, and has been really good for us.”
Vollweider said Cowley has given her the opportunity to grow professionally as well as personally. She will miss all of her students and fellow employees.
In other matters, the Board:
1. Viewed a spring enrollment report that indicates as of March 14, full-time equivalency was 3,038, which is up from 3,001 on March 14, 2005.
2. Approved the employment of Lisa Roberts as director of business, industry, and entrepreneurship, effective March 27.
3. Approved the overload contracts for spring 2006.
4. Held an executive session to discuss property acquisition and professional negotiations.
5. Reconvened for a second executive session to discuss property acquisition and professional negotiations.
