Cast pulls together to make Much Ado About Nothing a success
Cowley College’s production of Shakespeare’s classic play “Much Ado About Nothing” entertained sell out crowds Friday and Saturday at the college’s Robert Brown Theatre.
Tickets were made available to only 100 lucky audience members each night of the show, which ran Friday through Sunday. The audience was seated on the stage around the actors.
Scott MacLaughlin, Cowley College director of theatre, was happy with the outcome of the performances.
“We were really happy with the attendance,” MacLaughlin said. “I liked the intimate format of it and it seemed to be very well received by the audience.”
Rachelle Bloyer, who had the lead female role (Beatrice) in the play, suffered a separated kneecap and was unable to perform her role on Saturday and Sunday.
Director Meghann Parman stepped into the role of Beatrice and did a stellar job.
“The fact that she was able to step in and do so well was very impressive,” MacLaughlin said.
“Much Ado About Nothing” was first published in 1600 and remains one of Shakespeare’s most popular and delightful comedies. Cowley adapted the play to be set in the summer of 1945, when American soldiers began returning home from World War II.
