Fire Chief conducts training session with Cowley employees
Arkansas City Fire Chief Randy Leach spoke to Cowley College faculty and staff during a Security/Crisis Management training session held Wednesday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

Leach gave an overview of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), which is federally mandated for all emergency response providers. According to the Homeland Security Act of 2002 this includes Emergency public safety officers, law enforcement officers, emergency responders and emergency medical workers (including hospital emergency facilities).

Leach discussed how the college should use management and personnel correctly, while being prepared and having a plan in place in case of an emergency.

NIMS provides a consistent template to enable Federal, State, local, and tribal governments and private-sector and nongovernmental organizations to work together to effectively and efficiently to prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from domestic incidents, regardless of cause, size, or complexity, including acts of catastrophic terrorism. NIMS provides a consistent, flexible, and adjustable national framework within which government and private entities at all levels can work together to manage domestic incidents, regardless of their cause, size, location, or complexity. This flexibility applies across all phases of incident management; prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.
