Cowley College holds GED graduation exercises
Cowley College’s Adult Education Programs held its annual GED graduation exercises Saturday in the Robert Brown Theatre. Eighty graduates received their high school diploma from the Kansas Board of Regents after taking the GED final examination.
Out of the 80 graduates, 60 percent qualified for a scholarship to Cowley College based on their final exam scores. Of those 60 percent, 41 percent were full tuition scholarships and 19 percent were half tuition scholarships.
Slade Griffiths, Cowley College vice-president of academic affairs presented certificates and scholarships to the graduates. Liz Shepherd, Upward Bound director, introduced the graduates and presented the class of 2008.
Angel Perryman, a former student in the GED program and graduate of Cowley College, gave the graduation address. Steve Butler, director of Piano and Music Theory, provided music for the ceremony.
“The support Cowley College gives to this program and its students is fantastic,” said Devin Graves, director of GED/ABE. “The scholarships are such an encouragement for students to continue their education.”
