Admissions Requirements

Please see How to Apply for complete application instructions and forms.

Prerequisite coursework
Knowledge of calculus, linear algebra/matrix methods, computer programming, probability and statistics.

Technical bachelor’s degree
Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Quantitative Management or a similar field.

Acceptable grades
A GPA of 3.0 or higher in the final two years of undergraduate study (including all coursework completed after the first 60 semester hours or the first 90 quarter hours). Grades in the prerequisite coursework shown above are particularly important. For applicants who fall slightly short of this requirement, exceptions can sometimes be made when the rest of the application is strong. Contact us for a preliminary review of your eligibility ( or 352.392.0928).

Work experience
Two years of full-time, professional work experience (or equivalent) is preferred. Exceptions can sometimes be made when the rest of the application is strong. Contact us for a preliminary review of your eligibility ( or 352.392.0928).

The GRE is required unless you already have an approved advanced degree.  If you already have an advanced degree and would like confirmation about this requirement, please contact us.  Typically, applicants will not need to retake the GRE if they have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited program that requires the GRE or GMAT for admission.  The GRE is only one of several factors that are used to determine admission to ISE graduate programs, and is rarely the primary determining factor.  See for testing sites and registration procedures.

Our current GRE score requirements are:

  • A combined verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning score of at least 295
  • A quantitative reasoning score of at least 148
  • A verbal reasoning score of at least 145
  • The analytical writing section is required and will be a component of the admissions decision. The expectation is a score of at least 3.5, although some flexibility may be extended when the rest of the application is strong.

Please know that we may revise the above score requirements going forward, if changes are indicated by distribution and performance data.
