LL.M. in Comparative Law

This one-year program was created in 1994, and attracts foreign-trained lawyers from around the world who want to enhance their understanding of the American legal system.

International & Comparative Law Certificate Program

Developed in 1998 to provide advanced studies in International and Comparative Law for University of Florida J.D. students. To receive the Certificate, students must take a minimum of 18 credits of international and comparative law core and elective courses.

International Trade Law

In today’s global market, success in the international trade arena is central to the economic health of the nation and law schools have a central role to play in ensuring that success.

Florida Journal of International Law

This student-edited journal publishes scholarly works with a global perspective by students, professors and practitioners on public and private international law topics.

Student Exchanges

Held in conjunction with:

  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • University of Cape Town, South Africa
  • Tel Aviv University, Israel
  • Bar Ilan University, Israel

— all among leading legal academic institutions. Law students enroll for one semester and study both local and comparative law, with credits transferred to UF’s College of Law. As part of the exchange program, the college also receives students from these institutions who enroll in standard J.D. courses.

Foreign Summer Academic Programs

Two summer academic programs are offered for study abroad. Each program runs from 5-6 weeks. The programs are in Paris/Montpellier, France and San Jose, Costa Rica. Courses are offered by UF and foreign faculty and students receive up to six credits.

The American Jurisprudence Summer Program for Chinese Professionals

The American Jurisprudence Summer Program for Chinese Professionals is scheduled to be offered in July and August, 2010, at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. The program is designed for Chinese university partners, and will include introductory courses in American law, site visits to U.S. federal and Florida state courts, and moot court experiences. Foreign Enrichment

Two courses per academic year are offered by leading foreign academics brought to our campus. These two-credit courses cover a wide variety of international and comparative law material.

Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot

This annual arbitration competition is held in Vienna, Austria. Students prepare briefs and oral arguments and appear before experienced arbitrators in the competition. Professors Jeffrey Harrison and George Dawson supervise the team.

Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

Students compete for places on the moot court team and prepare briefs and oral arguments for this annual competition which concerns issues of international law. Professor Jon Mills supervises the team.

Law & Policy in the Americas Program

The Law & Policy in the Americas Program is sponsored by the University of Florida’s Center for Governmental Responsibility at the Levin College of Law, the Center for International Business Educations and Research, the Center for Latin American Studies and the International Center. The Program coordinates the activities of these centers as they relate to law, policy and relations in the Americas. The Program is dedicated to using the University of Florida’s legal expertise to foster the rule of law in the Americas and to strengthening the University’s ties with the region.

Visiting Scholar Program

Opportunity for foreign educators, attorneys, judges, research officers, government officials and law and Master’s Degree Students to do research in UFLaw facilities.
